Lisa was created in 1986 by Mike and Carol Lombardi as their third start-up venture for the Lombardi brand family. Originally conceived as "the frazzled mom's remedy for an all-boy household," the executive board's strategy quickly took a new direction when bows and dresses proved to be incompatible with the company lifestyle.
From 1991 to 1996, Lisa more than doubled in size and was soon a leading producer of poorly constructed clay animals and piles of laundry left on the floor. In 1998, the Lombardi headquarters moved from Shaker Heights, Ohio, to Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, cementing the brand's Midwestern identity for years to come. Lisa's growth remained stable until it was briefly acquired by Syracuse University from 2005 to 2009 in a move to position the brand for the print journalism industry – a move that ultimately cost Lisa and Lombardi Industries several hundred thousand dollars.
In the years since, however, Lisa has established a reputation as a go-to source for storytelling, creativity, and humor, and recently completed a landmark first-ever profitable quarter.
Lisa is headquartered in Dover, New Hampshire but still loves to wander whenever possible.
